Inauguration of the “National Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Ancient Ceramic Restoration Technique” and “Ancient Ceramic Restoration Master Jiang Daoyin Studio”

Mr. Jiang Daoyin is an expert of “migratory birds” in the South China Sea Museum of China (Hainan). He actively participates in the restoration project of ancient ceramics in our museum, and guides the restoration workers in our museum to formulate restoration plans, select materials, control risks in the restoration process, and ensure the integrity of cultural relics , share the experience and technology of ancient ceramics restoration, and promote the progress and development of ancient ceramics restoration technology in our museum. Mr. Jiang Daoyin is a well-known ancient ceramics restoration expert in my country, an executive director of the Cultural Relics Restoration Committee of the Chinese Society of Cultural Relics, and a professor at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts. He was transferred to the Shanghai Museum in 1972 and began to work on the restoration of ancient ceramics. So far, he has restored thousands of ancient ceramic masterpieces. On December 28, 2017, Mr. Jiang Daoyin was selected into the recommended list of representative inheritors of the fifth batch of representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage.

Xin Lixue, curator of the South China Sea Museum of China (Hainan), said that Mr. Jiang Daoyin has superb skills and rich experience in cultivating ancient ceramics, which will help promote the development of our museum in the protection and restoration of ancient ceramics, and contribute to our museum. The protection and restoration of ancient ceramics has injected new vitality. Our museum will actively carry out the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage projects under the guidance of Mr. Jiang Daoyin. This is the first time that our library has established a national intangible cultural heritage inheritance project studio. It is believed that fruitful results will be achieved in the near future.

Mr. Jiang Daoyin delivered a speech at the ceremony. He said that intangible cultural heritage represents the cultural foundation and soul of a nation, and each intangible cultural heritage technique contains infinite wisdom and power. He hopes to work together with China (Hainan) South China Sea Museum to better pass on the intangible cultural heritage.
