REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  SEOUL — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Lithuania next week, the presidential office said on Thursday (6/7/2023). Yoon is also scheduled to have a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

South Korea and Japan are not members of NATO, but are partners in the military alliance.

Yoon will be in Vilnius from Monday to Wednesday next week. The meeting will be Yoon’s second time participating in the meeting of the Western defense alliance, according to the South Korean presidential office.

After leaving Vilnius, Yoon will then make an official visit to Poland starting Thursday next week.

During his visit to Vilnius, Yoon is also likely to discuss Japan’s plans to release into the sea processed radioactive water from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant.

“Yoon will explain what he thinks needs to be done based on the (government’s) principle of prioritizing people’s health,” said an official with South Korea’s presidential office.
