Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Ministry has optimized the communication infrastructure in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, to support the success of the ASEAN Summit 2023, Ministry’s Telecommunication Monitoring Center Team Head, Indra Apriadi, stated.
Currently, four cellular operators and four fixed broadband service operators in Labuan Bajo will support communication services for the ASEAN Summit 2023, he noted at a press conference here, Friday.
“In relation to cellular service in Labuan Bajo, 94 percent of the residential area has been covered by 4G service,” he remarked during the “Kominfo Ministry Readiness Support during ASEAN Summit 2023” press conference.
“However, if the area also includes forest and such, then 74 percent had been covered,” he stated.
Moreover, for the ASEAN Summit 2023, the ministry had requested telecommunication operator, specifically the Telkom Group, to prepare to improve its service capacity in Labuan Bajo.
Service improvement and optimization was conducted through the use of a portable signal booster in the form of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) Combat.
Service capacity improvement of existing BTS infrastructure was also conducted, specifically in Golo Mori Village and Labuan Bajo that serve as the venues for holding the ASEAN Summit 2023.
“Currently, Telkom Group reported that the optimization process had reached 44.7 percent. Everything is targeted to be completed by the second week of April 2023,” Apriadi stated.
As a whole, 1,635 4G BTS and three 5G BTS in Labuan Bajo support the internet network, he reported.
Moreover, a 3,773-km fiber optic cable is used for fixed broadband service, with the number of access points reaching 2,055.
These infrastructures will support the entire communication services during the ASEAN Summit 2023 in Indonesia held on May 9-11, 2023.
Apriadi remarked that to maintain optimal performance of communication services during the ASEAN Summit 2023, the ministry has made preparations for monitoring through the Telecommunication Monitoring Center.
“Our monitoring is undertaken toward the quality of service and also public complaint handling that is available for 24 hours. We ensure that we will specifically monitor this event,” he stated.
