Rafael Campos, former PGA Tour Pro, is currently on the Korn Ferry Tour and looking to make his way back on the PGA Tour. He is doing so by making huge lifestyle changes and was motivated by an old Rory McIlroy video where he explained how he got in shape so quickly. That video is something that Campos keeps replaying and replaying to remind himself of what his goals are in life.
That interview on Rory was described by Campos like this:
“I do remember Rory, an interview he had. Rory was never fat like me, but he was chubbier, and I do remember an interview, I still go back to it, I want to say it was, like, a good 13 years ago. One reporter basically asked him like, hey, how did you get in shape so quick or why did he do it. He was like, man, my lower back was really bothering me and if I want to play golf until I’m 60 or something like that, I have to get in shape. I do remember that and I still remember that kind of triggered me saying like, OK, this is one of the top players in the world and he’s doing something about it, just because he knows we have to use our body to play and to be able to work. I think that definitely helped.”
That lit a fire under Campos to start his workout journey to get his body up to his standards by building up his strength and staying injury free for 2023. Rafael documents his journey 5 months in and discusses all that he has gone through the last several months.
Rafael Campos’ story is motivation for golfers and non-golfers to look at the importance of exercise in longevity in the sport you are playing. He wants this to be a sport that he can play till he’s 70, now he is looking great and building the foundation for his best self at 34.
