IMF Director to Jakarta to participate in the summit of the ASEAN Summit

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva will visit China before visiting Indonesia and India for the ASEAN and G20 meetings. In China, Georgieva will meet with leaders of the Bamboo Curtain Country.

“From August 30 to September 3, the Managing Director will visit China for bilateral discussions with a team of senior Chinese leaders,” said the IMF, Monday (28/8/2023).

Georgieva will then travel to Jakarta to participate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders’ summit before attending the G20 heads of state and government meeting in New Delhi.

Last month, the IMF slightly raised its 2023 global growth forecast given strong economic activity in the first quarter. But the agency also warned of persistent challenges limiting the medium-term outlook.

The lender projects global real gross domestic product growth in 2023 at 3 percent, up 0.2 percent from its April forecast, but its projection for 2024 is unchanged, also at 3 percent.

The IMF’s prediction on China has also not changed, the agency predicts the world’s second-largest economy will grow by 5.2 percent this year, up from 3 percent in 2022, before falling to 4.5 percent in 2024. The IMF warns of a recovery performance China is still doing poorly and a deeper contraction in the real estate sector is still a risk.

The IMF said Georgieva would be in Jakarta from September 4 to September 7 and New Delhi from September 8 to 10.
