KUCHING (Nov 20): All government online services related to business sectors are to be enabled with SarawakID Corporate by 2024, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said SarawakID Corporate is available for corporate entities to sign-on and access government online services.

He also said that all digital government services shall be accessible through a single sign-on using Sarawak ID.

“Currently, more than 957,000 users are registered to access government services,” he told the august House at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here today.

He added that the government is also introducing SarawakPass, which will enable every Sarawakian to have access to ‘digital passports’, allowing them to carry their credentials wherever they go and share them with any entity, be it in the private or government sectors.

Abang Johari, in tabling the 2024 State Budget, said a total of RM26 million will be allocated in 2024 for the implementation of numerous key digital projects.

“These include License Management System for Sarawak Carbon and Capture Storage; Integrated Social Management System; State Online Foreign Workers Transformation Approach Development System; and Enforcement and Security Unit Sarawak Advanced Security Enforcement System,” he said.

He said the development of digital government services will ease and further simplify interactions between citizens and the government through delivering secured and trusted seamless services.

In elaborating Strategic Thrust Six: Intensifying Digital Transformation of the 2024 State Budget, the Premier said a total of RM1.89 billion has been allocated to support the Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural and Nation (Saluran) initiative through various projects by the state administration while also complemented by the federal government.

“Additionally, the federal government, through Digital National Berhad (DNB), has allocated RM1 billion for the development of 5G in Sarawak until the year 2030,” he added.

He noted that Sarawak is proud to be an early adopter of 5G, with plans for 589 operational sites by 2024, covering about 60 per cent of populated areas in Sarawak.

On a related matter, Abang Johari said the government is establishing a comprehensive cybersecurity team capable of providing cyber security services to both the government and private sectors.

“Cybersecurity stands as one of the most critical components in the digital era.

“As our world becomes increasingly interconnected and reliant on digital technologies, protecting sensitive information, digital assets, and critical infrastructure cannot be overstated,” he said.

He added that a Cybersecurity Unit will be established to spearhead the development and implementation of the Cybersecurity framework and policy.
